Toronto Fringe Festival Presents: Goosefeather Kamishibai
As part of her cross-Canada book tour, Naomi Steinberg will perform her Goosefeather Kamishibai at the 2025 Toronto Fringe Festival. In this show, the Vancouver based storyteller recounts her extraordinary global adventure, traveling by land and sea in 2015, through kamishibai - a popular street performance from Japan that blends voice, movement and imagery.
Written while in Japan and subsequently developed during a micro-residency supported by the Conseil culturel et artistique de la Colombie-Britannique, the Goosefeather Kamishibai transports audiences through its hand-drawn images and earnest yet whimsical story.
The show Saturday July 5 at 11:30 AM will be a bilingual performance (Japanese-English), featuring Miho Suzuki. Miho is an actor, improviser, and artist known for many shows, such as the lead in Warigami (The CW/CBC), Pachinko (Apple TV), Murdoch Mysteries (CBC), and recent voice work in Assassin’s Creed Shadows (Ubisoft). Her troupe received The Spirit of the Fringe Award at the Vancouver Fringe Festival in 2016.
