Hi, I am Canadian but I want to ask for some advice. Recently, I saw a Japanese girl working at a restaurant I really like. I’m not sure if there’s cultural difference. But in Japan, if a guy really likes a girl, how can he be friends with her? She only knows me as a customer and I want to be friends with her. Someone please help me. Thank you.

If she is serving your table, tip her really well. That make you stand out.

I have a girlfriend who use to work at coffee shop. Young guy came and purchased $3 coffee and left $5 tip every time. Every time he came, all the worker knows why he was there. My girlfriend thought he is cute too so they start going out and got married.

Do you really want to be "friends" with her or are you interested in more than friendship? You can just ask her out for a coffee/tea or lunch. I think that the important part is to let her know of your true intentions, so she won’t have to wonder about that or have some unrealistic expectation about where this is going. I don’t think we can tell you how she will react, as we are all different.

The only thing I would say is that because there are so many Canadian guys that try to pick up Japanese girls just to take advantage of them, many Japanese girls would be skeptical of you at first. So it is very important to show her respect. Someone said pay extra tip but I wonder if she might take it as trying to suck up to her or "buy" her attention. But that’s just me.
