カナダに住んでるが（永住権あり）日本の住民票をそのままにしている方、メリットとデメリットを教えて下さい。

実は、２年前に一時帰国した際、国民健康保険が欲しくて住民票をいれました。が、そのままにしてあります。国民年金の支払いは、免除になっていますが、国民健康保険は月々最低限度額（2500円）銀行から引き落とされています。この金額は、毎年２月から３月の県民・市民税申告書を提出していてそれによって計算されているみたいです。（確定申告書提出の代わりにこれを提出しています。これは、役所の人に教えてもらいました）

ただ、日本に毎年１−2回ほどしか帰国しないので、やっぱり住民票を抜いておこうかな、と思っていますが、以前日本の病院にかかることがあった時実費でかなりの額を請求されたので、その点どうしようかと考えています。
カナダで日本でも使える海外旅行保険を購入したことがあるのですが、後ほどカナダの保険会社に払い戻しの請求をしたら、莫大な書類の提出と３−４か月かかったことがあるので、非常にめんどくさいなと思いました。

もし、今後カナダに在住しながら日本の住民票をそのままにしておくとどのようなメリットとデメリットがあるかご存じの方教えて下さい。
（子供はいません）

ちなみに私の知っている人は約30年間住民票をそのままにしてあるらしいです。。。
