Hi, I was in a similar situation about 7 years ago. My wife and I had just gotten married and we moved to Japan. At the time, I got a working holiday visa and then transferred it to a spouse visa once in Japan. To get the working holiday visa (1 year), I had to show a minimum amount of money ($4,000 in travellers cheques, if I recall correctly). This might work for you, or you should probably check with Japanese immigration (nyukoku-kanrikyoku) about getting a spouse visa from the start. They might only give you six months at the start, but then it ramps up to 3 years. As far as I know there isn¡Çt any requirements for this other than being married (bring your marriage lisence!). You may need to be ¡Ésponsored¡É by someone in Japan, and I suspect that relatives in Japan could handle this formality. My wife¡Çs father signed for me when I first got the spouse visa.
