1. Sarah Vaughan had a voice like a (A:perfect) instrument, and it was (B:an) instrument that she knew how (C:to use it) with the (D:utmost) skill.
In this sentence above C,”to use it”, is gramatically incorrect. I assume C should be changed into ” she would use it” or ” it would be used”, because we have to form a noun clause owing to ”knew” right before C. After changed, however, the sentence seemed something weird. Is my solution correct?
2. (A:During early) nineteenth century, the building (B:of) canals and railroads (C:strengthened) the state of Indiana’s links (D:with) the eastern United States.
In this question A is not correct. I suppose ”the” should be set in between ”During” and ”early”, this is just my guesswork, though. ----> ”During the early”. Am I right?
Help me solve these two questions!!! Thanks in advance.^^
