たぶん書き忘れだろうと思われる細かい間違いはこのさい無視します。
英語を書く時（話す時）にあなたが気をつけること
１、重複した表現はさける。
checked at someone, someone see it
２、同じ単語を使うのをさける。
in my bags, someone
３、主語と述語を明確にさせる。
３についてはＳＶＯをしっかり勉強してください。 　

シンプルにこんなのはどうでしょうか？
I did not buy (something) because I thought I would be embarrassed (mortified) if it was found at the customs. 　

あなたの書かれた日本語↓解りません
「かなり難しいですけど（私にとっては笑）」
英訳お願いするのに笑？恥ずかしいということですか？

日本語をそのまま直訳するより、区切ってみてはどうですか？
英会話ですよね、単なる一例として

つけたほうが良いですね。Customs=税関。つまり空港だけでなくすべての国境にあります。

the reason to use {IT WOULD BE} is because it is only a future possibility not past reality (was).

If it was past reality, then you can use {was}.
