I strongly agree with Res7. You should know that it’s natural for people here to hag or kiss your cheek when they meet ”a close friend” like you. Is ”he” a non-Japanese? You are misunderstanding North American custom.
I have a Canadian friend who has a nice wife and children, and I sometimes meet him to have lunch or dinner. Whenever I meet him, he kisses to my cheek and hug me. BUT there is no specific meaning. He never cheat his wife and neither do I: I never betray my fiance. Can you understand ? If ”he” were not Canadian, I wouil be sorry.
