Hello, Canadian Guy seeking Japanese Girl for help / language exchange...
by TG from バンクーバー 2007/03/22 21:28:39

Hi,

I live in Burnaby (close to MetroTown).
I am looking for a roomate (female from Japan) for sometime in Middle of April or March.

I need help looking for a roomate (can you help?)

I am also interested in language exchange with someone from Japan. (I want to visit Japan sometime this year or next year, so I’d like to learn some language) :)

I have lived in KOREA for 6 months and enjoyed it very much.
I hope to hear from you soon.

This is me:

why does it have to be a female???
Res.5 by TG from バンクーバー 2007/03/23 08:05:13

I’ve lived with female roomate for 6 years and feel comfortable with female. I do not want to have male roomate. That is my preference.

For language exchange... it doesn’t need to be female; that can be male or female.

Thanks for your concern.

안녕하십니까? TG,

I am an 16-year-old Yemenite girl who have been living in Korea for seven years. I am planning a study trip to Vancouver in late April for three weeks, and found your post on the internet.
Are you still looking for roommates? Can I be one of them? I like cooking (if you like I can prepare Kimchee for you too) but don’t have much money for grand apartment in downtown. I am glad if you give me generous discount.
Maybe I can teach Korean if u are interested, and you can teach me English, too! Wow, I am getting so excited!

고맙슴니다.

Anyong Fusae,

Wow... I do love Korean food (as I said, I lived in Korea for 6 months).

If you really love cooking I think I can help ;) haha

How long are you planning to stay?
Please send me an email and I can send you more information.

Dear TG,

I am a 23-year old Japanese female working in Vancouver. My apartment in Grandville will have construction and I have to live somewhere else from end April to early May. I was thinking of staying in a hotel (landlord is offering me some discount) but I thought it might be interesting to share apartments with locals.
I can’t cook well, but I think we can have some fun if you can show me around the city. I have been here for only one year so far, so I am interested in visiting many suburb area, especially if you have a car.
I hope you still have some extra space in your house. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours,
房江

Hi 房江,

Your timing is perfect as my current roomate is leaving in Mid-April.

I live in a nice condo located in Burnaby - very close to skytrain and shopping. The building is under 10 years old and nicely painted.I do have a car and can help.

Again, please send me an email :)

vancouverburnaby2007@hotmail

Thank you.
Res.10 by Fusae from バンクーバー 2007/03/23 10:42:34

Hello again TG,
do I still have my space? Do you like 房江 better? I think I’d better stay in a seperate room from Japanese lady. I like people and hoping to have fun as a group, but I am getting a little shy..xx I am planning to arrive on April 20th, and will depart on may 11th. I may spend a few days elsewhere for the field trip.

Hi,

I really need to speak with anyone interested email (I need to know cost, length of stay, contact information, etc.)

I have not decided anything - no one has contacted me by email yet.

If you are interested, please write me an email.

Thank you.
Res.12 by 房江 from バンクーバー 2007/03/23 11:10:58

Hi Fusae,

is there any reason you don’t like staying with Japanese? And remember, he says he is looking for "a roomate (female from Japan)", not Yemenite. I think he wants me.. right?

房江
Res.13 by 無回答 from 無回答 2007/03/23 11:36:16

Is there a way to close this post?
I’d like to discuss this in private.

Fusae, please send me email.
房江, please send me email.

Thank you.
Res.14 by Fusae from バンクーバー 2007/03/23 11:41:00

Hey 房江,

to tell you the truth, my father (he’s a refugee from North Korea) used to tell me that Japanese ladies snore a lot. That’s the only reason. It’s okay if you don’t snore at all, and I don’t care what fun you’re to have with TG ;) I just need a place.

Res.15 by Fusae from バンクーバー 2007/03/23 11:44:25

P.S. btw, how do you pronounce your name 房江?

Res.16 by 無回答 from バンクーバー 2007/03/23 11:44:39

Res.17 by 無回答 from 無回答 2007/03/23 11:51:44

Ok... this is a joke right?
I am done. Bye.

Res.18 by ふさえ from バンクーバー 2007/03/23 12:17:28

Ok everyone, the game is over. Sorry if you guys were terribly annoyed. Here’s my summary.

Lesson #1
Never ever think about sharing a room and whatever with minors. It’s a crime.

Lesson #2
Never ever mix up Japanese, Korean, or any other Asians. We share many cultures, but are as different as you Canadians are from Americans. Where in the world does a Japanese feel good about the guy who boasts his experience in KOREA and snatch a roomshare offer from Koreans.

Lesson #3
Do respect each individual.

I admire your courage of disclosing your photo, and it’s much more positive attitude from other Japanese guys seeking partners.
Said that, you need a little more respect toward Asian culture and people. Never think about Asian women altogether for the simple substitute for your Japanese ex (as shown in your picture).

Again, sorry about spoiling your precious time. I wish you a good luck for the roomshare, and even more, for your quest into Asian cultures.

Best Wishes,
房江, ふさえ, and Fusae
Res.19 by 無回答 from 無回答 2007/03/23 14:50:11

Nice police work detective, don’t quit your day job.

I’m sorry... I was going to leave this one alone... but I couldn’t resist:

Lesson#1:

Please post the link that says it is illegal for 16yo’s to rent rooms in Canada. I believe as long as they have consent from a parent or guardian there is no legal problem here. This happens all the time - in fact I have friends who are "homestaying" a few teens from Korea.

Lesson #2:

I wasn’t and have never been mixed up about cultures.

Lesson #3:

You assume I am seeking a substitute for my Korean "friend" (not Japanese - do not assume) in the photo... it’s funny that you "assume" she is my GF and that I am looking for a substitute (this also tells me you don’t treat women with respect - women are not things to be substituted.)

Now a lesson for you:

NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING.

By the way, I’d have written you an email instead but you didn’t post it.

Res.20 by ふさえ from バンクーバー 2007/03/23 16:00:28

Thank you for the reply to such a rude ’cop.’

Lesson#1:
I’ll note your objection. ’Parental consent’ is the key.

Lesson #2:
Rejected.
A person who claimed searching for ’roommate from Japan’ accepted an offer from Yemenite, proving that you don’t care about ethnicity or cultural background. In other words, it ment whatever female will just do.
Just to make sure, I don’t want to argue about your ’preference’ for Japanese. Ten people have ten tastes. Indeed, the more Canadian understand Japan, the happier we are.

Lesson #3:
Rejected.
You’ve "lived with female roomate for 6 years" who’s "leaving in Mid-April",
you’re "looking for a roomate for sometime in Middle of April or March,
(I DID assume it was a typo for May, since it’s nearly the end of the month)
and schedule of end-April to early-May "is perfect".
Isn’t this ’a person or thing that takes the place or function of another’ i.e. a substitute?

> NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING.

Okay, maybe I was wrong at some point. I never though of any person who doesn’t have mere thoughts of having affairs with opposite-sex roommates in the first place. I was assuming it was unsafe enough from my Japanese cultural background.
So you’re saying that your post were trustworthy enough, and that I was wrong in suspecting you had such an intent. Probably I need to learn more about Canadian life, and how female can better insure their own security.

Anyway, I am still wishing your luck, and hope our society can welcome you back in a more peaceful way.

Old soldiers never die, they just fade away.
Res.21 by TG from 無回答 2007/03/23 16:59:34

I really hope "your" society welcomes me back as well...

I apologize for being such an Evil-White-Canadian-Male, you got me! It’s a good thing "your" society elected you to represent them... you’re doing an excellent job.

I guess it serves me right for trying to post on a site I can’t even read. This was my mistake. I should have gone with my gut-feeling and just posted on Craigs list instead. I could have waited until I got help from my Japanese friend to post here :P (oh well, I will do that next time).

Could you do us both a favour and report this thread to an administrator and get it removed; I can’t read Japanese and this experience is very embarassing for both you and me.

Be honest though, you are a 16 ~ 24year old guy right.. most likely born and raised here in Canada? You lack of knowledge on Korea shows (i.e. A relative who’s a refugee from N.Korea LOL!! Good one!!)

Oh well, you and I will both know the truth :)

Res.22 by ふさえ from バンクーバー 2007/03/23 17:20:37

Thanks again for reply.

I won’t dig to far into refugees, but just FYI, there’s quite a few Northern refugees into South via third countries.

Not sure why you’re interested in my profile, but what if I am a 36-year-old married female Japanese grad student on sociology who’s been in BC for one year?

Anyway, dear audience, now I’m happy to take any questions from you guys :)
