It is mandatory to take an English test when going to the UK or Australia, but the idea to implement this in Ottawa, Canada has been dropped.
The Canadian government, earlier this year, proposed that all prospective Canadian immigrants must do a language test in English or French in order to get into Canada. But in the midst of many complaints this will no longer apply.
"Many people felt that it was unfair to go through the rigorous process of the English test when people come from English speaking countries such as the US and Britain," explains Colin Romberger of www.globalvisas.com, an international global mobility specialists.
The exam itself has also been labelled as too academic and un-Canadian by language experts.
It is because of this that groups like the Canadian Bar Association wrote as many as three complaints to the Immigration minister Diane Finley, before she agreed to let the scheme go.
The Canadian immigration ministry had said that all immigrants, would have to pass the three hour International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam which was developed at the University of Cambridge in England.
