A foreign national who applies for a study permit and receives it on or after June 1, 2014, is required to meet the following conditions:
they must be enrolled and remain enrolled at a designated learning institution; and
they must be actively pursuing their course or program of study. This means that study permit holders in Canada must make continuous progress towards completing their program of study.
To monitor compliance, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) is developing a compliance reporting portal through which designated learning institutions at the post-secondary level will provide the academic status of their international students to CIC (e.g., full-time, academic suspension, no longer enrolled).
Additional details concerning the compliance monitoring are expected to be available later in 2014.
