Reporting to the Executive Director, the Food Service Manager will be accountable for the operational planning, development and evaluation of the food services program consistent with our mission. The manager will be responsible for all aspects of the food services program; financial management, quality control, human resources and both internal and external relationships with stakeholders.

Customer Service/Communication

· Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills in a healthcare/hospitality environment.

· Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, engage and provide quality services for residents, family, public and stakeholders.

· Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with residents, family and community through interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).

· Demonstrated skills as motivator, mentor, team player and leader using clear and professional language.

· Ability to fully participate in leadership activities including on teams and committees.

· Ability to multi-task, handle variety of demands and manage workload priorities in a calm, professional manner.

· Ability to handle confidential matters and information.

Financial

· Prepare and manage the annual departmental budget, inventory management and control including purchase of departmental supplies and equipment.

· Monitor expenses by forecasting production quantity, portion control and waste management.

Human Resources

· Responsible for managing all human resources related activities for food services program staff including, hiring, orientation, scheduling, performance, workload, safety, retention, training, discipline up to and including termination.

Operational Management

· Develop and manage food preparation, food quality and food safety programs in compliance with HACCP standards.

· Develop and manage employee health and safety programs in compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations.

· Develop and manage equipment programs to ensure equipment is in working order, make recommendations for improvements on equipment and purchase equipment as budgeted for/required.

· Develop and manage departmental audit programs to include resident satisfaction, inventory, food temperature records, etc.

· Develop and manage departmental supplies and inventory program including food purchasing, receiving food/supplies and waste management.

· Develop and manage departmental sanitation program.

· Develop and manage departmental policy and procedures to support the audit, quality, safety, sanitation and equipment programs.

· Prepare and provide departmental education/training sessions for staff to support food service programs that include quality, safety, sanitation and equipment programs.

· Purchase products through approved suppliers.

Food Services

· Chair food advisory/resident food committee meetings.

· Work closely with Dietician, Resident Council and Food Services Team to develop and implement menus to include:

o special menus for resident nutritional/health needs

o seasonal food

o to celebrate holidays/special events

o to comply with standards set my Canada’s Food Guide for Seniors

o to meet the facility and resident expectations including Japanese culture.

· Work closely with Chef and staff to prepare standardized recipes to ensure quality of food preparation and presentation standards are met.

· Manage and adjust cycle menu to meet budget goals and resident needs/preferences.

· Lead and mentor Chef and staff in ongoing quality improvement initiatives and innovative trends in food service.

· Lead and mentor organization in managing food services in resident and community setting by providing leadership in both institutional needs and hospitality service areas.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

· People person that has a heart for seniors and a positive, can-do attitude.

· Interest and knowledge of Japanese culture an asset.

· Ability to work independently and as a strong team player.

· Two (2) year post-secondary degree from an accredited University in food service management, hotel/restaurant management, hospitality management, business administration or related major.

· Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification.

· Five (3-5) years’ experience in the food and beverage, culinary or related professional area.

· Five (3-5) years’ experience in departmental management including staff management at a senior level.

· Previous experience in assisted living facility and working knowledge of residential guidelines as per Health Authority requirements.

· Previous experience in hospitality industry.

· Intermediate level expertise with Word, Excel and Outlook.

· Demonstrated experience in fiscal management including ability to control product and labour costs.

· Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Current membership with Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM) or meets the requirement for membership and willing to be registered.

· Current and valid Food Safe Level 1 certificate; Food Safe Level 2 certificate an asset.

· Current and valid WHMIS certificate.

· Ability to provide a satisfactory criminal record check.

· Fully vaccinated as per current Provincial Health Orders (PHO).

· Ability to dedicate the time necessary to ensure the effective operation of the Food Services program which operates 365 days a year.

· Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $60,000.00-$65,000.00 per year

The assisted living residence and seniors housing is in full operation during the COVID-19 pandemic. The operations are guided by the regulations set out by the Fraser Health Authority of BC.
