Because the volunteers are not taking any paying jobs away from any Canadian residents. And, since it is volunteers are not being paid wages, it is not breaking the Canadian labour law.

If you feel you are being taken advantage of, then you don’t have to go.
The Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and the local high school students who go to help have enjoy the expereience being there. After returning to their courntries lots of the foreign students have stayed in touch with the theatre and the local friends they met from the theatre.

私はここで、ボランティアをさせていただいていますが、
とてもいい場所ですよ。スタッフの方もいい方だし、
みにくるお客様も皆さん地元の方ばかりなので楽しいです。
このLilyさんというかたも私がボランティアの都合がつかないとき
に一生懸命スケジュールを組んでくれました。
英語環境を望みたければとてもおすすめです。
不安な方もいらっしゃるのではと思って投稿させていただきました☆

確かこの映画館、チケットが$4とかで無収益の所だったと思うよ。だから、違法じゃないはず。
私も応募したことがあります。ただ、日時が合わなくて諦めましたが。Kitsにある映画館ですよ。問い合わせて、断ったにも関わらず、メールがとても親切で印象に残っています。だから、きっとsaoriさんの言ってるのも本当だと思うな。

日本のミニ・シアターみたいな所ですよ。普通の大きな映画館ではやってないような、ちょっとレアな映画が見れます。

The theatre shows the Hollywood feature films that just come off the downtown theatre. For example,
- till Thursday, we are showing "kinky Boots" and "The Lost City".
- from Friday, "The Breakup", "The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift".
- September, "The Da Vinci Code" and "Click".
Starting last month, we had "Mission Impossible III", "United 93", "Poseidon", "Ice Age 2: The Meldown", ...
