I am fed up with the report that a new statue of so-called Comfort Woman is going to be installed in the Central Park, Burnaby. This phenomenon symbolize the tendency of the people of South Korea demanding the apology of Japanese People for the wrong-doing committed by its ancestor during the World War II for which they have not yet found out any material evidence.
And in spite of the fact that by the 1965 Basic Treaty between South Korea and Japan, they have given up any claim for the damages done by the then Japanese Government during the period between
1910-1945. In this sense, the South Koreans are to blame doubly. This kind of actions should be given up immediately and no country should never assist that country in its dirty maneuver. Things that happened during the War are nothing but “Madness”. What happened during the War stays in War-Time, not a subject to discuss in different time. They were Madness after all.
I sincerely ask the mayor and all council members not to approve the monument.
I am writing this message of important subject as a one Japanese citizen. I would like you to know the true story.
Recent few years, Korean American's and Korean Canadian's anti-Japanese propaganda and lobbying become extremely active. Korean’s allegation is during WWII the Imperial Armed Forces of Japan abducted approximately 200,000 young women and forced them into sexual slavery known as "Comfort Women".
The House of representative of the United States passed a resolution on comfort women , as well as CA, NY and NJ State Legislatures. Moreover, Korean American groups have put up monuments of comfort women in the public properties in NJ and NY, and planning to build more all over US. Now, they are planning to build the first monument of comfort women in the Central park, Burnaby in Canada.
Japanese are upset about this situation. We do not try to rewrite the history. Also we are not revisionists or right wings. As the fabricated history is spreading, we cannot miss damaged our ancestors’ honor, and we want you to know the fact what the real history is.
There existed at that time women called “Comfort Women”. There existed in the world women who had misfortune to be in prostitution because of poverty or of any other reasons. But the fact that Japan as a state power forced women into prostitution did not exist. Not to speak of abduction of about 200 thousand young women loaded in trucks heading for fields of battle. It’s absolutely fictitious since there is no evidence wherever people go to look for.
If such abduction had happened in Korea at that time, there would have been riots since 80 % of police officers were Koreans. The Comfort Women issue began with a lie which has been strengthened by those who take profit from this lie, helped by awkward explanations of Japanese government.
First of all, Canada and any other countries are not entitled to disgrace Japanese people in relation to war and sex. Mr. Eiichi Isomura, ex-professor of Tokyo Metropolitan University and the President of Toyo University, who was the head of Shibuya Ward in Tokyo at the time of GHQ occupation, received order from officer of GHQ to collect women for prostitution for them and to build a kind of installation named “Recreation Center”. It’s said that there were some women who sold their lives in change of just one bar of chocolate at the time of extreme shortage of food. Now that the issue on Comfort Women is getting a worldwide matter, he confesses that he cannot stop getting ashamed of himself and to blame himself for having thrown his country women into prostitution for American soldiers. (The Sankei Newspaper Sept. 17, 1994)
Also Mr. Syumon Miura, the President of Japan Art Academy, known as a moderate non-radical person wrote in the following words. ”If the issue on Comfort Women is treated as an issue of army and sex, it should be included that the American Army of occupation using Japanese police blocked streets to operate medical examination of VD to all the women there including non-prostitute and that there were many rapes. Most of rapes and such kinds of crimes were buried in the darkness.” (The Sankei Newspaper Aug. 2, 1996)
Japanese comfort women called “Panpan” or “Only” in showy wear and make-up used to walk hanging round American soldiers. The number of these Japanese women is estimated about 200 thousands.
A magazine for the lowbrows at the time of occupation named “Liberal” reported a note. A young woman who was taken to a special comfort station lost her virgin in the first day ,had sex with American soldiers 15 times per day at least, too frightened to move, and became someone different. “I heard from every room yells and laughs of American soldiers and sobbing of women.” “There were those who got sick in 2 or 3 months and lost their senses.” “This was an epitome of the scenes seen all over Japan.” (Excerpt from the November 1954 edition of the magazine)
I would like to say to the North American society, Christian organizations and etc. which accuse Japan, that they should know what their fathers and brothers did in Japan and be ashamed of themselves.
Japanese government should demand apology and compensation to American government. If American government cannot do it or does not have intension to do it, then Japan should neither make an apology nor compensate for the issue on Comfort Women. Reciprocity, equality and fairness should be the basic rules in the international relationship.
To penetrate its righteousness for US-Japan war, US seems to wish that Japan had been atrocious, inhuman country. Or US could not justify itself which committed historical crime such as the drop of atomic bomb and the bombing of Tokyo.
Several resolutions that passed in the federal, states’, counties’ and cities’ congresses and/or senates are annoying and irritating the conservatives of Japan who are used to be pro-American cooperating on the US anti-communism policy after the World War II. There is a risk that Japanese people who are falsely charged, hurt, smoldering, the frustration being internally accumulated, will be finally pushed towards anti-America.
The worst thing is to exaggeratedly describe the “Comfort Women” issue in order to adjudicate Japan on the same basis as that for Germany that was governed by Nazi and committed the Holocaust.
There is an important German document titled “Prostitution, Homosexuality and self-destruction – Problems in German sanitary guideline, 1939-1945” Franz Seidler. It reports on the scientific base the realities of perfect state prostitution of Germany, the sanitary control, the management of prostitution house and the abduction and the confinement of non –prostitute women.
Racial matter was one of the difficult things to deal with in relation to prostitution under the Nazi governed Germany. If a German officer or a cadre man of Nazi has sex with a Jewish woman, he will be executed. The west and the east European areas are different each other in every aspect. The state-regulated prostitution was used in Netherland and Norway, on the other hand there was no such system in the east European and the Russian area. So the German commanders at the front made up girls almost forcibly for prostitution.
Nevertheless why was issue on Comfort Women in Germany not born? Because other crimes were so important and atrocious that the issue on Comfort Women was faded away. Compared to the crimes committed by Nazism such as the Holocaust, homicide factory, experiment on a human body, male and female sterilization and mercy killing policy, tragedy of victims by “Army and Prostitution” which exists everywhere in the world from ancient times can’t be located on the same line.
It’s quite ridiculous to exaggerate the issue on Comfort Women for a purpose of putting Japan on the same line of Germany which committed the Holocaust which has nothing to do with Japan, by identifying the Japanese war and the German war which are different in every aspect. Republic of Korea participated in the Vietnam War and left 7,000 to 20 thousands of fatherless children.
I would like to mention an incident. One Japanese unit on the front line in China cornered by American Army handed over Korean comfort women to American Army for a purpose of their safe return to Korea. On the other hand the Japanese comfort women chose death for honor with the soldiers. Japanese soldiers were fighting with the spirit of samurai (Bushidou).
I am grateful to you for taking valuable time to read this mail.
We know that Canadian cherish and esteem fairness, justice, and truth. We hope that you will make a truthful, fair, and objective judgment on the Comfort Women Issue.
I sincerely ask the mayor and all council members not to approve the monument.

Japan-Korea: Were Korean Men Cowards during World War II?
A vexing question
There are growing, unsubstantiated questions about whether the Japanese Imperial Army kidnapped 200,000 sex-slaves (Comfort Women) in World War II. Mostly from Korea.
A $30 million US Government Study specifically searched for evidence on Comfort Women allegations.
After nearly seven years with many dozens of staff pouring through US archives -- and 30 million dollars down the drain -- we found a grand total of nothing.
The final IWG report to Congress was issued in 2007. (Linked below.)
Nobody should be writing about Comfort Women issues without reading this report cover to cover.
Many of the unsubstantiated claims are coming from Korea. Korean allegations have led to unexpected twists.
At the time, Korea was actually part of Japan -- roughly in the way that Puerto Rico is part of the USA.
Many Koreans were members of the Japanese military. So any allegations that the Japanese military kidnapped 200,000 women implies that Koreans were involved in kidnapping Koreans. This is an uncomfortable reality. It gets even more uncomfortable.
So today, South Korean President Park Geun-hye constantly accuses Japan of kidnapping these shiploads of women.
Imagine how this boomerangs back. President Park is saying that Japan -- and her daddy was an officer in the Japanese Army at the time -- kidnapped uncounted tens of thousands of women from Korea as sex-slaves. Yet there is no evidence that Korean men fought back.
During the war, Korea had a population of about 23 million. Today, Texas has a population of about 26 million.
Imagine trying to kidnap 200,000 Texas women. There would be a bloodbath. The Army would lose thousands of soldiers, and thousands of civilians no doubt would have been slaughtered in return.
Evidence would be everywhere. Photos. Films. Battle sites. Texans would never allow 200,000 women to be stolen and raped without making a river of blood. So President Park is essentially saying Korean men during World War II were a bunch of cowards.
Also imagine this from the perspective of a Japanese military General or Admiral. He is at war with the USA, Australia, Britain, China, and more. His hands are full. The USA in particular is on the march with our Navy and Marines, and we are smashing Japan anywhere we can find Japanese.
All generals always want more troops and supplies. That is a fact of life. Just ask any General. Ask any business leader what he or she needs to expand or defend against competition: They always want more resources.
What kind of fool General would dedicate the resources to kidnap, guard, transport, and feed 200,000 women, knowing that he is creating yet another war to fight?
The Japanese were highly advanced military thinkers. They made their own submarines, airplanes, and aircraft carriers. These were serious people, and super smart.
There is no way that Generals would dedicate those resources to kidnapping women when the US military and allies were marching down their throats. They had a war to fight -- this was not Spring Break.
Any serious military or business person can see the folly in common sense of kidnapping 200,000 women. It does not make sense, and would have created a new war in Korea -- which was a base for Japanese recruitment. Koreans were fighting Americans. Koreans were our enemy.
And back to Korean men. It would be horrific to see the US Army try to kidnap 200,000 Texas women -- especially so considering that many US military members are Texans, just as many Koreans were Japanese Soldiers.
Texas would rise up and start smashing the Army. Bridges would blow up. Soldiers would be shot every day. Bases would burn. The Army would fight back and there would be total war.
So are we to believe that Korean men are such cowards that nobody lifted a hand to defend their women? Because if they allowed these many women to be kidnapped, they are cowards, and their sons today had cowards for fathers.
The reality is that we know that Koreans are no cowards. Koreans are a courageous people. So what really happened? It is clear from source documents, and the common sense that every water buffalo possesses, that there was no mass kidnapping.
It's all a lie, and no matter how much someone hates Japan, it will always be a lie.
Please read the IWG report that practically nobody seems to know exists. If you do not have time for the whole report, do a search inside the report for Comfort Women, and carefully read those parts: http://www.archives.gov/iwg/reports/final-report-2007.pdf

I am deeply saddened and concerned by the information that the city of Burnaby may be allowing a piece of public land in Central Park to accommodate the so-called Peace Monument - a statue commemorating the comfort women of 1930’s and 1940’s in Asia. As there have been ongoing dialogues between the Japanese government and the Korean government to find solutions for the issue, this topic is a matter of foreign diplomacy in Asia. Allowing the statue in city’s public space to represent the view of one side inevitably torments and marginalizes the other. That is the last thing we need in this society where people with different background from around the globe are supposed to show generosity and openness to each other. The city of Burnaby should not weigh in on this foreign political issue.
I am a parent of two children that go to an international school in Burnaby. Although this is Canada, not South Korea, I do not understand why a statue that can be used politically by a certain country for their diplomatic merit should be allowed in a public space. A variety of people exist together in Canada with respect to each other. Once a statue like this (the Comfort Woman statue considered for Central Park) gets built, it will lead to bullying, prejudice, and discrimination against not only the Japanese people but also other Asian people that are hard to be distinguished from by their appearance. I am strongly opposing an action that goes against Canada's virtue as a country having been accepting many immigrants. In my view, granting a statue that can be used politically by a certain country for their own benefit significantly distains the spirit of Canada as a multiethnic country. Please make a rightful judgement.

I strongly oppose developing a statueof comfort woman/a memorial cenotagph of comfort women in Central Park.

The issue of comfort women is very controversial, sensitive issue and still indeed very political matter between Japan and Korea as of today. For example, Korea calls for an unequivocal public apology for comfort women from Japan but Japan says Japanese Prime Ministers in the past apologized officially many times for comfort women and also contributed the equivalent of $47 million to an Asian Women’s Fund created to assist former comfort women but this was not considered enough by Korean comfort women.

Do you know such a statute of comfort woman already exists in the US? The statue has been a focal point for demonstrations which led to the bullying of children whose only “fault” was having Japanese parents. If we allowed such a statue to be built here, it would send the wrong message to Canada as a whole that it is acceptable for one immigrant community to accuse another, citing historical grievances from their country of origin. US cities like Fairfax and Glendale where comfort women memorials have gone up experienced a great deal of turmoil in their communities and ignited division between Japanese and Koreans communities since.
