so your all telling me to just reformat the hd and reinstall windows? why cant i just somehow repair the corrupted file in the MBR so i can boot up windows again since everything else in my windows was working just fine, by reformatting i lose all my data, this is not acceptable for me...cant i just take the boot files form my windows disk and just copy them in to my MBR and overwrite the corrupted files...is this possible???

reinstalling doesnt delete your old files. however formating will. you have three options when you have corrupted MBR.
1. you can try to recover or boot using BOOT disk (if you have created such before the MBR was corrupted.
2. you can reinstall and still manage to save your data;the data here doesn’t include applications. most of the applications previously installed on your pc will need to be reinstalled
3. Clean install and lose everything.
your best bet is #2 since you probably dont have clean boot disk created before the crash. g’luck and come down ..
