テレビを見ながら、ご飯を食べるとか、
笑いながら、喋るとか、
〜しながらはどう表現したら良いのでしょうか？
While を使えばいいのでしょうか？

(I don’t turn off TV when I eat supper)

どんな表現方法もWhileやAsに拘っていたら教科書から出てきたなんか味気のない表現になってしまう。
そのときの状況や言いたいことによっていろんな言い回しがあるからね。 　

上記は間違い。

She was crying when she called me.
彼女が電話してきたとき、（彼女）は泣いていたとなってしまいます。

以下の文も同じ間違いで、何何したときに、何々していた、という表現。　教科書英語どころの間違いではありません。


泣きながらと言いたいのであれば、
She called me crying.

テレビを見ながら食べる。
I eat watching TV.

笑いながら喋る、もどう言うかもうわかりますね？ 　

Res.2さんの回答が間違いだとは思いませんが、

「〜しながら」という表現は”分詞構文”を使うの、学校で習ったの覚えてませんか？


Res.3さんの、「She called me, crying.」が一番自然なはずです。しかし、この元の文は

「She called me while she was crying.」で、主節「She called me」と副詞節「while she was crying」の主語が同じなので、副詞節の”接続詞”と”主語”を省略して、動詞を-ingにする。



-ingの他に、「with + 名詞 + 動名詞／過去分詞」「over + 名詞」を使うこともできます。

「He was sitting on the chair, with his arms crossed.」（彼は腕を組みながら椅子に座っていた））

「Let’s talk over coffee.」（コーヒーを飲みながら話そう）


文法の本に載ってるはずですので、確認するといいと思います。

不自然と言えませんが、別の言い方でいうと、無学者の英語のマネ英語です。

A: She called me crying.........

B: Oh, yeah? What was she crying????.........


Res.2サンの方が一番規則正しく自然な選択です。

日本語でも考えてみてください。

泣きながら電話して来たんだよね〜。っていうのと、電話してきたとき、泣いていたんだよねーって二つの違う表現がありますよね。

Like I said, I wouldn’t say #3’s answers are wrong, but they sound like something a dumb 20 year old mother of 2 by 2 different fathers would say.

A: So, like, she, like, totally, like, called me crying, like.....

B: Noooooooo Waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy!! That is so, like, totally, like.......

etc, etc.


Res.#2’s answers are by far the more comprehensive and useful.

Unless you want to sound like some dumb hick.

Also, assuming that any given expression in Japanese has a definite, set commensurate in English is a very, very bad idea.


Maybe you need to meet some more educated Canadians????

You could probably still find あのTom somewhere around Robson and Thurlow................
