If the entire period was in the past, or will be
in the future,
you use, "from xx to xx."
For example, "I once lived in Tokyo from 1998 to 2002."
or, "He will be in Bangkok from the 12th to the 21st of
next month."
If the present time is in the middle of the period,
you use present perfect with "since," and it’s quite
complicated depending on the situation.
For example, "I’ve been living in LA since 2004, and (I)
am planning to stay until 2009." or
"The exhibition started last Friday and will continue
(or "go on") until next Wednesday."
As for distance, you can use "How far...?"
"How far do you want to go?"
