Sketchyって言う言葉はSLANGです。意味は=アヤシイ、信用できない、安定していない物、しっぱいしそうな時。
I guess it’s kind of a new slang, so older people wont understand it (over 50 in age, I guess)
EG 1: へんな人がSKYTRAINの駅でTICKETを売ります。って言ってきたら(友達に)"He looks a little SKETCHY"
EG 2:JPカナダで買ったばかりのMP3プァイヤを$5で売ります。
"That sounds a bit SKETCHY"
EG 3:古いはしごを登ろうとしている友達に言う
"That ladder looks a bit SKETCY"
EG 4:スケボー、スノボー(エクストリイムスポツ)のわざをシッパイしそうな時に良く使います。 "That was so SKETCHY, he almost bailed"
(Bailed =ころぶ) *in this situation bailed is used for "FELL" also another SLANG used by skaters
That’s probably why your homestay brother said "That was sketchy" cuz the skater probably almost fell in the video, or not landed his trick... right?
Anyway Keep up the good work, it’s good to see that you are asking about REAL ENGLISH. It’s good Japanese practice for me too.
