LANGLEY (NEWS1130) - A series of cat mutilations is not limited to Maple Ridge. Six cases of unusual cat deaths have been reported in Langley since the beginning of the year.
The BC SPCA's Lori Chortyk says it's possible some of the cases may have been caused by natural predators. But because of how the cats have been found, she adds it's likely a person is behind many of them.

"In one of the cases, there was a number of bodies found in a dumpster. In some of the cases, they were found in a plastic bag. For most of them, it really does appear to have been done by a human," notes Chortyk.
Investigators are looking into any possible connection to several disturbing cases in Maple Ridge.
"In the majority of the cases, including the ones in Langley and Maple Ridge, bodies have been sawed exactly in half and it looks like it's been done using an instrument, either a hand saw or a large knife," adds Chortyk.
She says there have been several tips from the public and they've been following up on a number of leads.
An expert from the United States, Dr. Melinda Merck, is being consulted as necropsies are being done. They're hoping to build a profile that could shed some light on whomever is doing this.
The BC SPCA is advising pet owners to keep their cats indoors at this time.
