GP= General Practioner
GPs are basically doctors that you need to see before you can go and see a specialist. The medical system here in Canada is totally different from that of Japan. I heard that in Japan, you have to go to a specialist that deals with the particular problem that you have. Here in Canada, you first have to go to a "general" doctor. You can look up under surgeons and physicians in the yellow pages to find a GP, or go to any walk in clinic. In case you don’t know what a walk in clinic is, it’s basically a clinic that you can go to and see a GP, but it’s different from going to see your regular GP. From my experince, unlike your regular GP, GPs at walk in clinic spend less time with each patient. My advise would be to find a GP that you feel comfortable with instead of going to a walk in clinic. Clinics, I think, are best for situations when you have a cold etc. As for doctors that can speak Japanese, as I recall, there were some listings of doctors who can speak Japanese in newspapers such as Vancouver Shinpo, Oops, etc. Hope this helps. Good luck.
