sorry for terreble my English

I am travering now in Canada,and,I am going to the NY tomorrow.
I just worry about my passport.
When we go into the US,do we have to have a new type of passport??(I mean passports which has like an electronic tip)

I made my passport a few years ago,so,it does not have a tip..

Does anyone know about this??

I hope I can go in the US...

去年、ビザの申請でシアトルに行くとき、ボーダーでとめられました。
理由は機械読み取り式パスポートでないことと、ビザがないこと。
しかしお金（＄200くらい）を払えば入国できます。私はバンクーバーに引き返しましたが。 　

I could go into the Seattle for 2 days last summer though I did not have any visa ,and maybe my passport was usual thing..

日本で発行されたパスポートはすでに数年前から機械読み取り式になっているようです。また、こちらの領事館等で発行のものも近年は機械読み取り式のもののようです。以前は違ったようです。機械読み取り式といっても見た目はほとんど変わらないので改めて見ないと気が付かないと思います。 　

「機械読み取りできる」（machine readable）というのと、ICチップ内蔵の新式パスポートというのは別だと思いますよ。2-3年前に更新したのであれば、すでに machine readable のはずです。

I remember I could go into the US last year by the passport which I have now like res3.

If so,maybe will I be able to go into the US,right?

i was nervous when i went to USA a month ago too
because my friend who live in Canada told me that my passport was old version without the tip.

my passport was issued 7 years ago in Japan and i couldnt see the tip from my passport actually i didnt know what the tip look like.

but i ended up to the Japanese gorvament website that shows pictures of old version of passport and new version.

also it says , the passport which is issued in Japan since 1992 is already new version.

just we have to check the passport which is issued in foriegn country.

Anyway if you got your passport in Japan, dont worry you will be fine^^
in fact you could go to US last year.

Res2さん、バンクーバーの領事館など、外国でパスポートを更新されたのではないですか？

外国にある領事館で更新した場合は、機械読み取り式になるのが、日本国内よりも遅かったと思います。それでも数年前から（覚えてませんがだいぶ前）からバンクーバー領事館で切り替えても機械読み取り式になっていますよ。Res2さんの場合は、日本で1992年以前に更新したものか、バンクーバーで数年前に更新したものではないでしょうか。

日本国内で更新したものであれば、現在有効なパスポートはすべて完璧に機械読み取り式です。

また今回、チップ（tipじゃなくてchip）が埋め込まれているものと混同されているようですが、チップが埋め込まれているパスポートは去年から新しく発行されたもので、日本で更新してもバンクーバーで更新しても、今はすべてこのチップが入っています。もちろん、チップ入りのパスポートは機械読み取りできますが、チップが入っていなくても、通常パスポートは機械で読めます。

機械読み取り式でないパスポートを持っている人は、海外で数年以上前にパスポートを切り替えた人だけです。
